About Us
How’s Work was founded in 1992 by Pamela Abernathy. Coming from a background in social services, Pam saw an opportunity to fill simultaneous needs in north shore communities of Massachusetts; assisting elders to remain independent at home while providing meaningful employment opportunities.
From humble beginnings at a shared office space How’s Work pursued this vision of providing compassionate care to elders at home while creating an inclusive employment environment. Almost thirty years later How’s Work remains family owned and operated by Pam’s son Matthew Abernathy. Today How’s Work provides care for over 300 elders and employs over a hundred home care aides.
Matt is proud to lead an experienced home care management team dedicated to carrying out the company’s mission into the next generation. Sarah Clark Home Care manager, Jenn Coyle HR manager, along with veteran home care nurses manage the agencies daily operations. Together these three managers have amassed over a half a decade of home care management experience. Although the agency has grown, we pride ourselves on maintaining a family business environment and as managers remain accessible to our aides, clients, and their families. We encourage you to reach out and contact us with any questions.
Our company values remain steadfast through these changing times, we believe that assisting elders to maintain independence in their homes is important work, and more essential now than ever. Likewise, providing employment opportunities has never been more critical to our communities.

Arranging Services
To arrange services with How’s Work give us a call at (781) 246-2264 or use our contact form to submit inquiry.
Services can be arranged for as little as a few hours per week up to round the clock 24/7 care. We will trive to create a plan of care customized to the client’s and family’s needs. Please feel free to reach out with any questions about your home care needs.
When you contact How’s Work, we gather necessary information about your home care needs. We will get an overall picture of living conditions, mobility issues, illnesses or diagnoses. This helps us determine the level of care that is needed.
If you select How’s Work, we will create personalized home care plan. The initial assessment is done in-home, if medically necessary a company nurse will create the client’s plan of care. For homemaking and companion clients a supervisor will visit for a “kitchen table” visit, to assess the home and sit and talk with clients and family members about their home care needs.
Once a care plan is created and a schedule is determined, we begin the process of matching you or your loved one with the right caregiver. We look for caregivers that may share your or your loved one’s interests. When possible, we provide caregivers who speak the client’s non-English language. If you or your family is not comfortable with the fit, we will work with you to find a caregiver more suitable to your needs and comfort level
Once care is in place How’s Work provides routine field supervision and inspections to ensure the quality and punctuality of care. Caregiver visits are verified with Electronic Visit verification from HomecareIT , a GPS based home care management system that all aides use to clock in and out verifying both the location and the length of shift.
